Dr. Terry Restivo will tell you upfront when surgery isn't what you need. Dr. Restivo is a plastic and reconstructive surgeon and the founder of Restivo Plastic Surgery in Wailea, Maui, and the only female plastic surgeon in Hawaii offering comprehensive face and body procedures. Her path to surgery was anything but conventional. She earned her BA in Biology from Mills College, her MA in Biology from San Francisco State University, spent years conducting research at institutions including UCSF and the National Cancer Institute, before earning her DO from Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed her general surgery residency at UCSF East Bay and her plastic and reconstructive surgery fellowship at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, where she also gave grand rounds presentations on vascular anomalies and breast reconstruction. Her research background is unusually deep for a cosmetic surgeon, with peer-reviewed publications in journals including Stem Cells, Journal of Trauma, and Journal of Cellular and Molecular Medicine, covering wound healing, stem cell recruitment, and tissue repair. That scientific foundation shapes how she approaches every patient: analytically, honestly, and with a bias toward what will actually work long-term. She has performed humanitarian surgical missions with Project Vietnam and LIGA International, experiences she credits with deepening her humility and respect for the individuals she serves. Outside the OR, she is drawn to the natural world and the quiet pace of island life that drew her to Maui in the first place. Her practice is intentionally boutique, calm, and built around one belief: that clarity is a form of respect.
