Dr. Terri A. Zomerlei, MD is a highly regarded, board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon based in Grand Rapids, Michigan. A native of West Michigan, she is widely recognized for her patient-centered care and extensive clinical training, having transitioned to surgery after starting her medical career as a physician assistant. 🎓 Education & Medical Training Dr. Zomerlei’s academic journey is distinctively rich and multi-layered:Undergraduate: She earned a Bachelor of Science with Honors in Biology from Calvin University (formerly Calvin College). Physician Assistant Studies: She completed a Master's Degree in Physician Assistant Studies at Grand Valley State University. Following graduation, she practiced as a PA in general surgery for several years, which built her foundation in meticulous surgical technique. To pursue her goal of becoming a surgeon, she attended the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, graduating in 2013. She finished at the top of her class, was inducted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, and received the Alumni Endowed Scholarship for Outstanding Commitment to Humanistic Medicine. Residency: She completed a rigorous six-year integrated plastic surgery residency at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in 2019. 🏥 Professional Career & Specializations Dr. Zomerlei returned to West Michigan as Clinical Faculty and Michigan State and an attending physician with Corewell Health in 2019. She is affiliated with major local hospital systems, including Corewell Health Grand Rapids Hospitals (Butterworth and Blodgett campuses) and Corewell Health Zeeland Hospital. She specializes in complex reconstructive breast surgery, with areas of expertise that also include cosmetic surgery, wound care, breast reductions, and skin removal after weight loss
