Trained as an artist and naturally gifted with exceptional surgical precision, Dr. Robert J. Carpenter discovered early on that plastic surgery was the ultimate way to blend his creative vision with technical mastery. A graduate of the University of Virginia School of Medicine, Dr. Carpenter completed his general surgery residency at the University of Rochester and his specialized plastic surgery training at the prestigious Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions. For nearly three decades, he has brought world-class care to the mountains of Cumberland, Maryland, treating every individual with the warmth and dedication he would offer his own neighbors. Beyond his private practice, Dr. Carpenter’s commitment to service spans an 18-year tenure in the Army Reserve Medical Corps—including active duty during the Iraq War—and annual medical missions to the Philippines to perform cleft lip and palate repairs for children in need. Believing strongly that complex reconstructive mastery elevates aesthetic precision, Dr. Carpenter combines profound technical expertise with compassionate artistry to help patients safely achieve results that are as stunning as they are natural.
