A native Floridian born in Miami, she earned her undergraduate degree with honors in Molecular Biology and Ethnic Studies from the University of California at Berkeley, before completing her combined MD and PhD degrees through the Medical Scholars Program at the University of Illinois. She then honed her surgical artistry through the rigorous combined General and Plastic Surgery residency program at Washington University.
