About the Procedure

Introduction

Introduction

Breast Augmentation Overview Breast Augmentation Overview

  • Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure to increase the size and/or shape of the breasts.
  • It is typically performed using silicone or saline implants, which are placed inside the breast tissue.
  • Breast augmentation can be done for a variety of reasons, including:
    • To improve the appearance of the breasts
    • To correct asymmetry
    • To restore breast volume after mastectomy
  • The procedure is typically performed under general anesthesia and takes several hours.
  • After surgery, patients may experience some discomfort and swelling, which can last for several weeks.
  • The results of breast augmentation are typically long-lasting, but implants may need to be replaced after 10-15 years.

Things to know before start

Pre-Operative Preparations for Breast Augmentation

1. Medical Evaluation:

  • Consult with a qualified plastic surgeon to discuss your goals, expectations, and medical history.
  • Undergo a physical exam, blood tests, and mammogram if necessary.
  • Quit smoking at least 6 weeks prior to surgery to reduce the risk of complications.

2. Implant Selection:

  • Discuss implant options (size, shape, texture) with your surgeon.
  • Consider the desired breast shape, natural breast tissue, and anatomical factors.

3. Incision Planning:

  • Determine the preferred incision location (inframammary fold, periareolar, or axillary).
  • Mark the incision lines with a surgical marker.

4. Antibiotics and Medications:

  • Your surgeon may prescribe antibiotics to prevent infection.
  • Avoid taking aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) for 2 weeks before surgery.

5. Fasting:

  • Do not eat or drink anything (including water) for 8-12 hours prior to surgery.

6. Shower and Hygiene:

  • Shower thoroughly the night before and morning of surgery using antibacterial soap.
  • Remove makeup, jewelry, and body piercings.

7. Clothing:

  • Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing to the surgery center.
  • Avoid clothing with tight necklines or bras.

8. Transportation:

  • Arrange for transportation to and from the surgery center, as you will not be able to drive for several hours after surgery.

  • Bring a trusted friend or family member for emotional support during your hospital stay.
