Biography

Dr. William Y. Hoffman is a distinguished professor of surgery and former chief of the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco. Driven by an early fascination with intricate anatomical reconstruction and the profound impact of form on function, Dr. Hoffman pursued his medical degree at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, graduating with honors, followed by intensive general and plastic surgery residencies at UCSF. He further honed his expertise through a specialized craniofacial fellowship at NYU under Dr. Joseph McCarthy. Recognized internationally as a pioneer in cranial re-animation and pediatric craniofacial reconstruction, Dr. Hoffman has dedicated much of his career to restoring form, function, and confidence to children with complex congenital anomalies. Beyond his surgical innovations, he successfully spearheaded vital legislation in California to expand insurance coverage for children born with cleft palates and craniofacial differences. Known for his meticulous technique, compassionate bedside manner, and visionary leadership, Dr. Hoffman blends rigorous academic excellence with deeply personalized, empathetic patient care.
