Biography

Dr. Stephen Vega is a board-certified plastic surgeon and the founder of Vega Plastic Surgery and Medspa in Pittsford, New York. Originally from California, he trained at some of the country's most respected institutions, earning his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania on a full merit scholarship, completing his plastic surgery residency at the University of Rochester, and then doing a dedicated microsurgery fellowship in breast reconstruction. He spent five years on the academic faculty at Rochester before leaving to open his own practice, specifically because he wanted to spend more time with each patient than academic medicine allows. That decision says a lot about how he practices. Dr. Vega is one of a small number of surgeons in the country who performs complex microsurgical breast reconstruction, a procedure that rebuilds the breast using the patient's own tissue after cancer treatment. He has pioneered techniques in this space, published extensively, and currently runs an ASRM-sponsored microsurgery fellowship, training the next generation of surgeons in the craft. Alongside his reconstructive work, he performs the full range of cosmetic procedures, from facelifts and body contouring to med spa treatments, all under one roof. He also speaks Spanish, which has allowed him to serve patients who might otherwise have difficulty navigating care.
