Biography

Dr. Paul N. Manson is a globally recognized pioneer in craniofacial and reconstructive plastic surgery whose career has defined modern standards for treating complex facial trauma and structural defects. Born in Kansas City and trained at Northwestern University where he earned both his undergraduate and medical degrees, Dr. Manson's path to surgical leadership was forged through rigorous dedication. Following distinguished service in the U.S. Army Medical Corps—where he notably provided heroic relief during the 1972 Nicaragua earthquake—he completed advanced training at Harvard-affiliated hospitals and a specialized fellowship in plastic surgery at Johns Hopkins. For decades, Dr. Manson served as the Chief of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Johns Hopkins and directed the pioneering Shock Trauma Unit division at the University of Maryland. He fundamentally transformed how surgeons approach acute facial fractures, orbital reconstructions, and cancer defect management. Admired by peers and generations of trainees worldwide for his intellectual rigor and steady hands, Dr. Manson blends profound anatomical insight with artistic precision. His life's work continues to inspire compassionate, life-changing care for patients facing the most challenging reconstructive needs.
