Dr. Martin D. Becker was a deeply respected physician whose distinguished career in plastic and reconstructive surgery spanned 35 dedicated years. A proud native of Massachusetts, Dr. Becker laid the academic foundation for his medical journey at Boston College before earning his medical degree from Tufts Medical School in 1960. Demonstrating an early commitment to service, he served honorably in the U.S. Air Force as the Chief of Plastic Surgery at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. Upon returning home, Dr. Becker established a thriving private practice in Norwood and offered his surgical expertise to patients at Norwood Hospital and Sturdy Memorial Hospital. Highly regarded by his peers, he assumed the role of President of the medical staff at Norwood Hospital in 1978. Beyond his clinical excellence, Dr. Becker was a man of rich intellectual and personal passions—an accomplished sailor who navigated the waters of New England, a talented pianist, and a lifelong enthusiast of classical music and opera. He is remembered fondly for his unwavering dedication to his patients, his leadership in the medical community, and the deep love he held for his family.
