Biography

Dr. Geoffrey Gurtner is an internationally recognized clinician, prolific researcher, and innovator who currently serves as Professor and Chair of the Department of Surgery at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson. Driven by a deep fascination with where surgery meets science, Dr. Gurtner chose a path in reconstructive and aesthetic surgery to solve complex clinical challenges that remain unaddressed by conventional technologies. After graduating magna cum laude from Dartmouth College and earning his medical degree from the University of California, San Francisco, he completed his general surgery residency at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, a plastic surgery residency at New York University, and advanced microsurgery training at MD Anderson Cancer Center. Known globally for his pioneering work in wound healing and tissue regeneration, Dr. Gurtner combines rigorous academic inquiry with a deeply personalized, compassionate approach to patient care. Whether he is performing delicate breast reconstruction or aesthetic procedures, he is dedicated to restoring form and function while ensuring every patient feels completely heard, supported, and valued throughout their surgical journey.
