His journey into medicine began with a desire to make a tangible difference in people's lives, leading him to complete his General Surgery residency at Blodgett Memorial Medical Center and further specialize in Plastic Surgery at Butterworth Hospital. Beyond his daily practice, Dr. Vander Wall is driven by a profound sense of humanitarianism. He regularly participates in medical missions to Central America, providing life-changing reconstructive surgery, particularly for children born with cleft lip and palate and other congenital deformities. This commitment to healing extends into his professional life, where he serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, sharing his expertise with future generations of medical professionals. When he is not in the operating room or on a mission trip, Dr. Vander Wall cherishes time outdoors with his family, often found skiing down slopes or enjoying a bike ride. He believes that true care goes beyond the surgical procedure, encompassing a holistic approach to well-being and a genuine connection with each person he serves.
